Purpose:

Arrange cargo collections from various origins and issue shipping orders for air and sea freight respectively. Collate pre-alert paperwork for clearing and update ETA. Generate clearing instructions as well as pre-check the agent bill of entry before customs release. Arrange collection from the airline within the free period to avoid incurring storage. Make sure the transporter uplift containers at the port within 3 days of vessel discharge and turn-in the empty in time to avoid demurrage. Ensure billing accuracy as per the Mustek broker rate structure, request Credit Notes re incorrect invoicing. Cost products and QC the Clerk as well as the Intern's work. Process Insurance Claims on missing or pilfered cargo.

Responsibilities:

  • Arrange collection from suppliers when cargo is ready.
  • Issue clearing Customs Entries as per the Tariff library or classification from Import Manager.
  • Using product library to ensure the Bill of entry is 100% correct.
  • Issue collection instructions to Transporters on air and sea freight respectively.
  • Costing the shipments accurately and on time.
  • Continually optimise operations within the department i.e. collections, costing etc.
  • Make sure the agent billing is correct as per the rate structure.
  • Cross departmental communication regarding status of shipments.
  • Drive inbound logistics efficiencies.
  • Manage demurrage as airline storage (cost conscious).
  • Attend embargoes to ensure zero penalties.
  • Ad hoc administration functions.

Qualification and Experience:

Matric

National diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Relations or Trade

3 - 5 years in Controller or Administrative role (High-Tech, Automotive or Freight Forwarding), responsibilities amongst them being Import or Export Management, Forwarding management

  • Product classification and customs rate of duty Flight Schedules
  • Customs Clearing Instructions, Customs Release Letters (LOA), Insurance Claims in case of Losses, Shipping Orders, Special instructions or motivation to Customs for Embargo releases on detained cargo
  • INCOTERMS, NRCS safety & Energy requirements, Guidelines on Transfer pricing between related parties, Import or Export procedures
